On Your Mark

Our morning started at 3:30 as we woke up for the Bryce Canyon 1/2 marathon. We are too poor to afford a hotel room down there, so we had to drive an hour and a half to get to the race by 6:00. You can see my excitement to get out of bed so early.
Here we are in the car with our numbers in the pitch black. The good news is: there aren't a lot of cars on the road at 4:00 AM.
As we got to the starting line, we did some stretching.

And we were done in no time! Well, not really. I wish the race went by as fast as it takes to scroll to the next picture. It was not as downhill as I was expecting, but the downhill parts definitely helped. Jeff did not have to walk until mile 6 and I made it to mile 7. Then the chaffing and sore feet started to kick in. I thought I had it bad until I crossed the finish line and noticed a man with chaffed nipples. Yup. Just like Andy from "The Office." One of his nipples was bleeding.
These were our times and rankings:

Sarah: 2:05:32.0
Overall Women: 280/625
Women 19-24: 34/87

Jeff: 2:33:33.8
Overall Men: 411/432
Men 25-29: 65/68

We ran into some of our friends from Cedar and they snapped a picture of us right after Jeff finished. I was glad to be there to cheer him on at the end. It was fun to have him run with me. We both decided this is for sure the last half marathon we are running. We'll stick to 10 K's from now on.
The best part about running 13 miles is you get to eat whatever you want for the rest of the day. We were quick to get over to Dairy Queen once we got to Cedar City.
And now we are laying around the house, watching movies and complaining about all our aching body parts. Remind me never to do this to myself again.

Nice job on the half marathon. Not many even attempt that so I am impressed.

Like I said, we should schedule a family Peach Tree Road Race some 4th of July after Ben gets home.

I am thinking that you are more sore the day after. Hope tomorrow is good.

You guys need your heads examined!! Glad the common sense has kicked in, albeit AFTER the race instead of before, that you'll never abuse your bodies like this again. Very impressive that you finished and that you got such great times. Congrats!!

Sarah, its like having babies. You absolutely refuse to have another kid, EVER! And then the memory of the pain fades and you start to think how neat it would be to do it again.
I think you will do this again.....as soon as the memory of the pain, goes away:)
I'm really proud of you.You are amazing!
