"Home"ly

I was noticing all the malfunctions or funny things about our apartment. These are all real pictures I took of our house today. And if our house was a person, these would be its symptoms:
Recovering Smoker.

Cancerous moles

The black lung

Life Support

Dislocated Parts

Tracheotomy

Wrinkles

Cheap Spray on Tan

Impaired Vision

Leprosy (We clean our bath with paint thinner)
It may be "Home"ly but at least it's got a good personality... And really cheap rent.

Who says you can't teach an old fish new tricks?

Have you ever seen a fish play dead? Ours does. Every time I look at Billy he is lounging in the leaves or lying wedged between the rocks. Motionless. Looking EXACTLY like our beloved first when his time came. I see him there, gasp and tell Jeff to grab the net and lift the toilet lid, then next thing I know he's swimming around again. I did not really expect fish to have personalities, but this has proved me wrong. Billy is tired, old, and lazy all the time. I miss Hank.

I never understood why I have to buy a membership to be able to shop somewhere, but as of yesterday we are now officially Costco members! Yeah, yeah, there are only two of us, but those rolls are totally worth the $50.00 membership fee. And I chew enough gum to make buying in bulk worth it. It has always been Jeff's dream to be one of the elite Costco card carriers, so we decided to make it happen.

I was just telling my mom the other day that I need a _________ of the week. My Dad does a quote of the week, my brother-in-law does a picture of the week, and I have been wanting a _______ of the week for a while. My first thought was YouTube video of the week, then I thought maybe funny advertisement of the week. My brother Jacob adds funny lines of what his kids say, so since I don't have kids, maybe I could do Tyraisms or Billyisms instead. Any suggestions?

Happy Bird Day

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEFF!
Yesterday I was asking Jeff what his mom did for his birthday when he was little and he said he couldn't remember. So then, of course I got curious, so I asked, "Jeff, what did I do for your birthday last year?" Again, he didn't remember. Last year I thought I was so clever when I made him a Superman cake. Since it didn't stick in his mind, I thought I might as well let my loyal blog followers ooh and ahh over it. He set the bar pretty high for my birthday, but it eased my worries to know whatever I did or didn't do would be forgotten by February 20th.

Since he wasn't spilling the info on an Excell Family Birthday, I decided to show him a Thomas Family Birthday. I made a birthday sign similar to the one that goes up in our house, I made oreo cream pie that Jeff insisted to filet with one of his miracle blades, and I made him breakfast in the morning. Too bad we don't have a Chuck-E-Cheese in town.

Jeff's friends are taking him out to lunch after class, and tonight for dinner Jeff's dad is cooking his famous fried rice most likely followed by a game of Rook. Happy Birthday, Jeff!

Love is Fishy Sometimes

Happy Valentine's Day! I have always thought V-day was a pretty dumb holiday. Who needs an extra day in the year to figure out something cheesily romantic to do? Aren't anniversaries and birthdays enough? Anyway... it is 12:46 AM Valentine's Day morning and we just got back from Wal-Mart after doing some Valentine's Day shopping. Hold on to your britches folks because we have a long awaited announcement to make.

Jeff, Why are you filling up an empty fish tank? I thought Hank died like 2 months ago.

After an extended mourning period, we decided it was time to move on with our lives and give a new fish a chance to enter our family. Meet Billy the Beta. I wanted to name him Alpha the Beta...but Jeff didn't think that was as funny as I did.

Who needs flowers? Fish usually last a lot longer anyway. Oh and this was the other gift we got ourselves. Nothing says love quite like a brand new toilet seat.

Just 6 Months Ago

A few weeks ago I was bored at work and found a fun little application on my computer called "Comic Life." I did some experimenting with it, and I thought this comic I made would be appropriate for our six month anniversary.

Groundhog Day and Happy Birthday

Happy Groundhog Day! Who doesn't love Groundhog day? It's a day where we put our fate in a furry animal that has been hibernating all winter long. If he sees his shadow(which he did) then it's six more weeks of winter, if not then spring is just around the corner. A couple interesting facts about our little groundhog friend, Punxsutawney Phil:
  • German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal cast a shadow on Feb. 2 — the Christian holiday of Candlemas — winter would last another six weeks. If no shadow was seen, legend said spring would come early.

  • Since 1887, Phil has seen his shadow 97 times, hasn't seen it 15 times, and there are no records for nine years.

Of course one cannot think about Groundhog day and not think of Bill Murray's brilliant performance in the move entitled "Groundhog Day."

Talk about a classic. Bill Murray, playing Phil Conners, repeats the same day over and over again. Who wouldn't want to do that? How fun would it be to repeat the same day over again?

On another, which would appear to be unrelated, note my birthday is coming up on the 19th of this month. Just like most people, I love my own birthday. I wish I could be like Bill Murray and live that day more than once.

Well here's the kicker. I can!! My uncle is a famous photographer taking pictures mainly of Zion National Park. This year he gave us a calender, and as I flipped to look at my birthday I noticed something very unusual:

As you can see on this calender (you might need to click on the picture for a better look) there are two February the 19ths!! So in honor of Groundhog day and Bill Murray, I will live my birthday more than just once this year!
