Baby Face

By the end of Lincoln's stay in the NICU, the nurses were probably left questioning my sanity. Whenever I would go in to nurse Lincoln, they would pull a curtain around us and then they would hear me spontaneously giggling from behind the curtain throughout the next half hour. 

Well I just couldn't help myself. Lincoln makes the most hilarious facial expressions. He could give Jim Carrey a run for his money. Here. See for yourself.

I love getting to know this new little person who's joined our family. I kind of thought his exaggerated expressions were normal for a newborn, but we went to the doctor today and in the 10 minutes the doctor saw us, he commented on Lincoln's variety of funny faces. 

The doctor put us on strict house arrest for sure until Lincoln's original due date and ideally well past RSV season. Apparently RSV hit late and hard this year. Since Lincoln already has trouble breathing, RSV would be really serious for him. The doctor said if Lincoln even gets a runny nose in the next few weeks he could need to be hospitalized. Eeeek! We've spent enough time at the hospital, so here's to hoping we can keep everyone well in the middle of sick season.

Lincoln weighed in at a whopping 6 lbs today. With clothes on. And a completely full diaper. He's not gaining weight super fast, but he's doing okay. We have to go in to weigh him again next week, so I'm going to try my hardest to fatten him up as much as I can until then.

We started him on caffeine while he was at the hospital to help with his breathing spells. Since he is on caffeine, they sent him home on monitors that check his breathing and heart rate. It's been very reassuring to have him all hooked up to alarms that would let us know if he had any kind of problem. We haven't had any issues since he's been home. He should completely outgrow his risk of "episodes" once he hits his due date, so he will be on caffeine until then. And then we will still need the monitors 1-2 weeks after he's off caffeine just to make sure we're in the clear, so we've still got about 3 weeks of him on the monitor, but that's just fine with me because it gives me some serious peace of mind to have him hooked up to a breathing siren.

Other than having to remove ourselves from society for the next month and lugging around the monitor for a while longer, everything is going great in our neck of the woods! We love our new little guy and we're thrilled to have him home!
